Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman is actively participating in the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which are being hosted in Geneva from July 7 to 15, 2026. Idris Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Oman's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, leads the Omani delegation. This delegation includes officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Oman Association for Intellectual Property.
According to Oman News Agency, Al Khanjari emphasized the significance of WIPO's ongoing efforts to enhance the international intellectual property system to be more efficient and inclusive, meeting the varied needs of member states. He highlighted the importance of transparency, efficiency, and equitable geographic representation in the appointment of senior positions within WIPO to reflect its global nature. The Sultanate of Oman takes pride in its partnership with WIPO, which has facilitated the execution of strategic planning, capacity-building programs, and training initiatives in collaboration with the WIPO Academy. These efforts support the development of Oman's national intellectual property framework.
Al Khanjari reiterated Oman's dedication to fostering constructive cooperation with WIPO and its member states, aiming to develop a balanced global intellectual property system that promotes innovation and creativity, thus contributing to sustainable development for all. During the assemblies, the Omani delegation engaged in discussions with the WIPO Director General and held bilateral meetings with the Director of the Arab Bureau for Intellectual Property and officials from the WIPO Academy and World Trade Organization. These meetings focused on enhancing cooperation with Oman.
The WIPO Assemblies serve as the organization's highest decision-making body, convening annually with member states to review achievements, plan future initiatives, and evaluate the work of WIPO's committees and unions. The agenda of the assemblies includes discussions on various intellectual property-related topics.
