Muscat: Five people have lost their lives in the town of Tin Zaouatine, located in the In Guezzam Province of southern Algeria, following torrential rains that swept through the region.
According to Oman News Agency, Algeria's Civil Protection Authority reported that emergency response operations included pumping floodwaters from 15 homes and various points across the city's streets, in addition to documenting a partial collapse of the outer wall at a facility belonging to Naftal, the state-owned petroleum products distribution company.
The incident comes on the heels of severe weather warnings issued by the Algerian National Meteorological Office, which had issued a special bulletin alerting to the risk of thunderstorms affecting the provinces of In Guezzam, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Djanet, and Tamanrasset.
