Muscat: Oman Volleyball Association confirmed the readiness of the national first team to participate in the Asian Volleyball Championship - Japan 2026, scheduled from 4-13 September, featuring an elite group of the strongest Asian teams, including host Japan, Oman, Iran, China, Korea, Australia, Qatar, Bahrain, Thailand, India, New Zealand, and Chinese Taipei.
According to Oman News Agency, the national team's presence in this championship comes following a series of successful milestones, most notably its active participation in the Asian Championship in India, followed by crowning as champions of the West Asian Volleyball Championship hosted by Muscat, reflecting the noticeable development in the team's level and its readiness to compete against the continent's powerhouses.
Yousuf Mohammed Al Badwawi, Acting Secretary-General of Oman Volleyball Association, said that the national team completed successful experiences in the Asian Championship in India and achieved a historic milestone by winning the West Asian Championship in Muscat. Today, it is preparing in all seriousness to participate in the Asian Championship in Japan. This participation represents an important milestone, as we will be among an elite group of strong Asian teams, which gives our players an opportunity for direct exposure to different styles of play, enhances their experience, and improves their performance.
He added: "We are confident that the team will present an honorable performance and strengthens its position in the world rankings following the qualitative leap achieved after winning the second West Asian Championship." He emphasized that the team's technical staff, led by Tunisian head coach Nizar Chekili, recognizes the importance of this participation and aims to achieve the best results among the participating teams in the championship.
