Meta Enhances WhatsApp User Protection with AI-Powered Fraud Detection Feature

Muscat: Meta has strengthened security on its WhatsApp messaging platform with the rollout of a new optional feature that leverages artificial intelligence to alert users to potential fraud attempts, currently available in a limited beta release. According to Oman News Agency, the "Scam Alert" feature displays a warning notification when the AI system detects that a conversation may be linked to a fraudulent scheme, offering users several options including blocking the contact, reporting the user, or continuing the chat. In cases where the alert is deemed inaccurate, the feature allows users to classify the conversation as trusted, thereby dismissing the warning and preventing it from reappearing for that specific chat. Users may also choose to share the last five messages with WhatsApp to help refine and improve the feature's detection accuracy. It is worth noting that Meta earlier this year launched another security enhancement aimed at detecting fraudulent attempts related to device-pairing requests on the WhatsApp application.
