Muscat: European stock indexes opened today's trading with mixed performance, after the US Treasury Department announced that it was taking measures to reduce borrowing costs, at a time when pressure resulting from rising energy prices continued. Among the major European markets, France's CAC 40 index on the Paris Stock Exchange rose by 0.05 percent, while Italy's FTSE MIB index in Milan also gained 0.37 percent. In contrast, Britain's FTSE 100 index in London fell by 0.08 percent, while Germany's DAX index in Frankfurt declined by 0.12 percent.
According to Oman News Agency, the mixed response in the European stock markets can be attributed to the ongoing pressures from elevated energy prices, which have been a concern for investors. The measures announced by the US Treasury Department are aimed at easing the financial markets by reducing borrowing costs, but the immediate impact appears to be varied across different markets. The fluctuation in the major indexes highlights the cautious sentiment among investors as they navigate through the current economic uncertainties.
