Muscat: The preliminary rounds of the Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Competition's 34th edition kicked off today in the Wilayat of Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate. The competition is organized by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science at the Diwan of Royal Court.
According to Oman News Agency, Rashid bin Humaid Al Dughaishi, Chairman of the committees supervising the preliminary and final rounds, stated that the preliminary round panel listened to the readings of 756 male and female contestants. These contestants hailed from the wilayats of A'Seeb, Bahla, Samayil, A'Suwaiq, A'Rustaq, Salalah, and Taqah.
The competition features seven levels of participation, each requiring competitors to memorize different parts of the Holy Quran. The levels range from memorizing the entire Quran to memorizing as few as two consecutive parts, with eligibility for certain levels based on the contestant's year of birth. Levels are designed to encourage participants from various age groups, with the youngest participants in Level 7 having been born in 2019 or later.
