Yuan-Denominated Loans Surge by 10.44 Trillion Yuan

Beijing: Yuan-denominated loans rose by 10.44 trillion yuan, equivalent to approximately 1.54 trillion US dollars, during the first eight months of 2026. The People's Bank of China reported yesterday that outstanding yuan-denominated loans reached 282.35 trillion yuan by the end of last August, registering a 4.9 percent increase year-on-year.

According to Oman News Agency, the bank noted that broad money supply "M2," which comprises currency in circulation and all types of deposits, rose 7.5 percent year-on-year to reach 356.81 trillion yuan by the end of last August. Narrow money supply "M1," which includes currency in circulation, demand deposits of companies and individuals, and reserves of customers of non-bank payment institutions, stood at 115.77 trillion yuan by the end of last August, marking a 4.1 percent increase year-on-year.

The bank explained that the balance of total Chinese financing directed to the real economy reached 464.8 trillion yuan by the end of last August, up 7.2 percent year-on-year.
