Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has unveiled a pilot Coverage Request Service within the Quality System, an initiative aimed at streamlining telecommunications service requests across the Sultanate of Oman. This electronic service enables governorates to track and submit requests, facilitating faster processing, enhancing planning, and supporting data-driven decisions.
According to Oman News Agency, the service standardizes request submissions and regulates their flow between governorates and the TRA. The system allows for comparison with past or ongoing requests at the same site or nearby areas, monitors duplication or similarity, and checks for existing or planned projects at the site. This classification helps determine the best processing pathway for each request.
The service allows for electronic submission of requests, detailing type, requirements, and location, and provides tracking of completion and progress. It offers a comprehensive view of governorate needs by displaying geographical data related to the requests. TRA staff benefit from a dedicated interface for studying and processing these requests.
Requests can include establishing new telecommunications stations, enhancing network coverage and internet services, providing 5G services, relocating or removing stations, extending fibre-optic networks, and addressing vandalism or obstruction of telecommunications infrastructure.
The Coverage Request Service uses artificial intelligence to conduct preliminary analyses upon submission, linking requests to technical and geographical data, assessing telecommunications services and coverage at requested sites, and verifying nearby towers and technologies. Initially targeting governorates, the service aims to expand in the future to include government institutions and economic and logistics zones, among others.
