New York:The Sultanate of Oman has been actively participating in a series of significant events and meetings held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, alongside the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to Oman News Agency, Oman was represented by Ambassador Talal Sulaiman Al Rahbi at the joint ministerial meeting between the GCC and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, and sustainable development between the two regions.
Oman also engaged in a high-level meeting commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development. Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Qutabi highlighted Oman's commitment to social justice and equal opportunities, in line with Oman Vision 2040. The meeting addressed enhancing the implementation of the Declaration amidst global challenges to promote inclusive development.
Additionally, Oman participated in the event "Human Rights for All: From Commitment to Collective Action," co-hosted by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mexico, and the Netherlands. Discussions centered on translating international human rights commitments into actions and enhancing multilateral cooperation.
In maritime affairs, Oman joined a ministerial meeting focused on maritime security, represented by Dr. Adnan Hamad Al Azri. The meeting, attended by foreign ministers from various countries, aimed to bolster freedom and security at sea and protect vital maritime passages.
Oman's involvement extended to a meeting on the protection of humanitarian workers, discussing safety measures and international humanitarian law. Khalid Saleh Al Rabkhi represented Oman in this discussion, which was held at the invitation of several countries, including Australia and the United Kingdom.
Furthermore, Oman participated in the high-level meeting on Climate Action and Just Transition, which was convened by UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres. The meeting emphasized international cooperation to tackle climate change challenges and promote sustainable development, with Oman reiterating its commitment to balancing developmental needs with climate action.
