Omani Athletes Shine at Asian Games, Advance in 100m Semifinals

Nagoya:Aichi Nagoya: Omani athletes Ali Al Balushi and Mulham Al Balushi have advanced to the men's 100m semifinals at the 20th Asian Games, taking place in Japan, after winning their respective heats. According to Oman News Agency, Ali Al Balushi clocked a time of 10.06 seconds, outperforming South Korea's Daniel Puisa, who finished with 10.23 seconds, and Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Abdullah, who completed the race in 10.32 seconds. Mulham Al Balushi also secured the top spot in his heat with a time of 10.29 seconds, ahead of India's Singh Gurderveer, who ran 10.38 seconds, and Iran's Hassan Taftian, who finished with 10.49 seconds. In the women's 100m event, Mazoon Al Alawi finished seventh in her heat, which featured seven athletes, with a time of 12.02 seconds. Bahrain's Edidiong Odiong won the heat, clocking in at 11.46 seconds. The Omani national beach volleyball team (Team A) began their Asian Games journey with a victory against the Philippines, winning two sets to nil. Their next match, which will d etermine the group winner, is set against Qatar on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Meanwhile, the Omani national cricket team is preparing for its historic debut at the Asian Games. They are set to face Hong Kong tomorrow, Friday, September 25, in the Group B qualifiers at the Gujo gi ground in Aichi Prefecture. The men's cricket competition includes ten teams, with the Omani team grouped alongside Malaysia and Hong Kong.
