Jeddah:The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) is actively participating in the 15th Session of the Statistical Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is taking place from September 29 to 30, 2026, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to Oman News Agency, the event gathers representatives from statistical offices of OIC member states, alongside various regional and international organizations. Representing NCSI at the session is Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, the CEO of the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The session's agenda includes addressing priority statistical topics for member states and reviewing reports by the Commission's Secretariat regarding the implementation of resolutions from the 14th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission. Additionally, it discusses the execution of the Commission's Work Program for 2026-2030 and mechanisms for developing a monitoring framework for the OIC Program of Action 2026-2035.
Efforts to modernize population and housing statistics through digital and interoperable systems are also being examined. These efforts aim to enhance statistical efficiency, support national planning, and monitor Sustainable Development Goals. The session will also delve into the implementation of the System of National Accounts 2025, focusing on areas like the digital economy, globalization, the informal sector, and Islamic finance.
On the second day, a specialized session will focus on monitoring indicators for Sustainable Development Goal 6, which concerns clean water and sanitation. This session will emphasize the role of national statistical offices in coordinating with relevant authorities and enhancing the use of various data sources to produce and verify quality indicators.
The session will conclude with a draft resolution and closing remarks. A side event organized by the General Authority for Statistics of Saudi Arabia, in cooperation with SESRIC, will focus on strengthening partnerships within statistical systems. NCSI's participation underscores its commitment to enhancing statistical cooperation and exchanging expertise with OIC member states, contributing to the improvement of data quality and supporting planning and decision-making.
