Nikkei Index Gains Amid AI and Semiconductor Stock Surge

Muscat:Japan's Nikkei index increased by 2 percent today, driven by the positive performance of AI-related stocks and gains in US semiconductor companies. Additionally, economically sensitive stocks benefitted from a decline in oil prices.

According to Oman News Agency, the Nikkei index advanced 1.94 percent to close at 66,753.72 points, having briefly exceeded a 2 percent rise. Meanwhile, the broader Topix index also climbed 1.67 percent, reaching 4,108.65 points.

Within the banking sector, Mizuho Financial Group saw a 4.52 percent increase. Shares of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group also experienced increases of over 3 percent.

In the technology sector, SoftBank Group, known for its investments in technology, rose by 6.55 percent. Tokyo Electron, a chip-making equipment manufacturer, saw its shares rise 2.69 percent, while Advantest, which produces chip-testing equipment, observed a 1.03 percent increase. Fujikura, a manufacturer of optical fiber cables, experienced a rise of 5.94 percent.
