Al Mudhaibi:The water distribution network project in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, North A'Sharqiyah Governorate, managed by Nama Water Services, has received the Water Provision Initiative of the Year Award at the Asian Water Awards 2026. This accolade was given for the project’s first phase, which involved constructing water distribution networks and house connections in the area.

According to Oman News Agency, the award acknowledged the project's engineering excellence, focusing on execution efficiency, financial discipline, and significant developmental impact. The project was completed within 790 days and maintained a budget of RO 65.25 million. This achievement was notable given the project's wide scope and the diverse challenges faced.

Eng. Abdullah Salim Al Rasbi, CEO of the Development Projects Unit at Nama Water Services, stated that receiving this award underscores the enhanced capabilities in managing strategic projects. He emphasized that the success of such investments lies in their transformation into reliable infrastructure and sustainable community benefits. The project employed an efficient resource management model, achieving goals within contractual timeframes and costs, demonstrating the integration of planning, financing, and execution.

The challenging geographical and urban landscape of Al Mudhaibi required precise planning and extensive coordination. The project had to navigate across valleys, highlands, and existing service networks, ensuring safety and preservation of water heritage. Eng. Ghalib Amer Al Musalami, Project Manager, highlighted the integration of expertise and local competencies in overcoming these challenges, enhancing local content and building infrastructure execution expertise.

Executed by Towell Infrastructure Projects Company, the project expanded water supply infrastructure to approximately 15,000 homes over 892 kilometers. It aimed at supporting urban development while anticipating future demands, designing a system to accommodate over 154,000 residents by 2040.

The project adopted a contractual model of design, build, and finance, with financial obligations distributed over time, providing flexibility for capital investments. It achieved significant occupational safety milestones, recording over 3.4 million work hours without lost-time injuries.

Furthermore, the project contributed to local content with a 25.97 percent Omanization rate and involved small and medium enterprises in its execution. It also supported local schools and institutions, enhancing community relations and adding a social dimension to the project’s benefits.

Nama Water Services is advancing to Phase Two of the project, with an RO 15 million investment to cover additional areas, ensuring readiness for future water service demands. The Asian Water Awards recognize outstanding water sector projects, and this award adds to Oman's achievements in infrastructure development and service efficiency.
