Dhofar: Activities of a week-long event titled 'Air Sports Village' kicked off in the Governorate of Dhofar today. The event, which will run until 17 August 2026, is organized by Oman Air Sports Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
According to Oman News Agency, the opening ceremony featured aerial displays that lit up the skies, thrilling visitors and tourists. The activities showcased paragliding, kite flying, and drone demonstrations, attracting a diverse audience to the scenic region.
Dr. Ahmed Al Alawi, Chairman of Oman Air Sports Committee, emphasized the event's dual objective of embedding air sports into the cultural fabric of the community and promoting tourism in Dhofar. "The event seeks to make air sports an integral part of the community's culture, in addition to promoting tourism in the Governorate of Dhofar," he stated.
Hussein Issa, a member of Oman Air Sports Committee, highlighted the innovative aspects of this year's edition, noting that visitors and tourists can engage in simulated flying activities through virtual reality technologies, offering an immersive experience.
The opening ceremony concluded with Sheikh Tarik Khalid Al Hinai, Wali of Taqah, honoring representatives from public and private sector establishments that supported the event. Their contributions were acknowledged for significantly bolstering the promotion of air sports and tourism in the region.
