Sydney: Ethiopian runner Addisu Gobena shattered the course record at the Sydney Marathon International event, claiming top honors in the men's category, while Kenyan runner Peres Jepchirchir secured the women's title.
According to Oman News Agency, Gobena covered the race distance in a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 42 seconds, bettering the previous record of 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 6 seconds, set by his compatriot Hylemariam Kiros at last year's edition. Ethiopian Chmdesa Debel finished second with a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 46 seconds, while Tabilo Ramakongwana of Lesotho rounded out the podium in third place, clocking 2 hours, 4 minutes, and 57 seconds.
In the women's competition, Kenya's Peres Jepchirchir claimed first place with a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 31 seconds, finishing ahead of her compatriot Irene Cheptai, who took second in 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 11 seconds. Ethiopian Shuru Dmais secured third place with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 33 seconds.
