London, Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, chaired the Council of Arab Ambassadors' annual reception on the sidelines of the Labour Party conference in Liverpool. This marks the first reception following the Labour Party's recent victory in the British general elections and its assumption of the government. The event highlighted the longstanding relations between Arab countries and the United Kingdom, reaffirming both sides' commitment to strengthening cooperation on shared interests. In his speech, Shaikh Fawaz commended the dialogue between Arab countries and the UK and acknowledged the UK's role in promoting international dialogue. He emphasised the importance of continued efforts towards peace and stability in the region, particularly concerning the Palestinian issue, advocating for a two-state solution. He underscored the significance of managing current tensions, not only for regional stability but also for globa l security. Lord Vernon Coaker, Minister of State for International Relations and Diplomacy at the Ministry of Defence, expressed the Labour government's desire to enhance cooperation with Arab countries and stressed the importance of joint action to address global challenges. He also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to facilitate peace negotiations and ensure long-term stability. The reception was attended by prominent UK figures, including Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the British Parliament; MPs Yasmin Qureshi; MP Afzal Khan; MP Bambos Charalambous; MP Naz Shah; and Lord John Mann, Independent British Government Adviser on Anti-Semitism, in addition to diplomats and politicians concerned and interested in the Middle East and the Arab world from a number of think tanks in the United Kingdom.
