Cairo, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al Asoomi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights (AOHR), met with a delegation of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the Kingdom headed by MP Ahmed Sabah Al Salloum, and Rawda Al Aradi. The meeting discussed cooperation between the Arab Parliament, the AOHR and the NIHR, on the sidelines of NIHR's visit to Egypt to learn about its experience in the Decent Life initiative as well as the correctional and rehabilitation centres. The speaker highlighted that Bahrain's pioneering initiatives in advancing human rights initiatives has gained recognition, attributed to the ongoing efforts of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Al Asoomi commended Bahrain's distinguished experience in consolidating human rights values, reflected in the continuous efforts of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The AOHR chairman emph asised the importance of benefiting from Bahrain's experiences with Arab countries through an annual conference held by the AOHR, with the aim of exchanging human rights initiatives in accordance with Arab values, provided the conference shall be held in one of the Arab countries. It was agreed to hold the conference this year on the sidelines of the meetings of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council session to be held on October. On his part, Al Salloum highlighted the achievements of the pioneering initiatives of HM the King, which provided precedence at the Arab and international levels in taking into account the human dimension in all domains, particularly the approval of the Penal Code, the alternative sentencing and open prison programme and the Restorative Justice Law. He praised HM the King's efforts in enhancing societal stability; reuniting Bahraini families, in line with the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty. Source: Bahrain News Agency
