A'suwaiq: A'Suwaiq Port in North Al Batinah Governorate handled 399,615,000 tons of cargo during the first half of 2025, compared to 374,168,000 tons during the same period in 2024. The port received 429 vessels, up from 408 ships in the first half of last year.
According to Oman News Agency, statistics revealed that dry bulk cargo handling reached 243,359 tons in the first half of 2025, compared to 286,278 tons in the corresponding period of 2024. Meanwhile, food commodities, vegetables, fruits, and other goods totaled 54,401 tons, up from 47,291 tons in the same period last year.
Eng. Sameer Ghulam Al Balushi, Director of A'Suwaiq Port, confirmed that the port has seen significant growth in cargo movement and vessel traffic due to enhanced unloading and loading operations, workflow optimization, and the introduction of advanced handling equipment, including high-capacity cranes, which have accelerated cargo processing.
He noted that foodstuffs, vegetables, fruits, and livestock are among the key commodities handled at the port, alongside construction materials, equipment, and other general goods.
Al Balushi added that development work on the port's operational area is ongoing, including the reorganization of internal yards, preliminary expansion project preparations, and upgrades to inspection, surveillance, safety, and electronic operating systems. Initial studies for the expansion project are nearing completion, with administrative procedures underway to commence implementation soon, aligning with growth aspirations and boosting port efficiency.
A'Suwaiq Port specializes in small and medium-sized vessels with a capacity of up to 10,000 tons. Its strategic location between Muscat Governorate and Sohar Port, coupled with proximity to the land-based Khazaen Dry Port, positions it as a vital hub connecting regional ports and facilitating the flow of goods to local and regional markets, including the Indian subcontinent and the Horn of Africa.
