Berri marks 46 years since the disappearance of Imam al-Sadr & his two companions, calls on Lebanese to consult under Parliament’s roof to reach a uniting national president

House Speaker Nabih Berri addressed the Lebanese on Saturday marking 46 years since the crime of disappearing Imam Sayyed Musa al-Sadr and his two companions, Sheikh Muhammad Yaaqoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine, stressing that "there is no compromise or settlement except with their return and unveiling all the ambiguity surrounding this crime that has been going on for 46 years." Referring to the Lebanese presidential file, Speaker Berri called for "consultation under the roof of Parliament, to reach the election of a uniting national president that Lebanon and the Lebanese deserve at this critical moment in its history." Referring to the Israeli attacks on Lebanon and its border villages with occupied Palestine, he considered that 'what Lebanon is being subjected to in the south is a full-fledged Israeli aggression," emphasizing "Lebanon's commitment to the provisions of UN Resolution 1701 and its literal implementation," noting that "all international and UN envoys, since the first moments this resolu tion was issued, have witnessed that the area of ??operation of the international peacekeeping forces from 2006 until October 6, 2023 has been the most stable region in the Middle East.' "The only party that must be bound by this decision is Israel, which has set a record in violating all UN resolutions related to the Arab-Israeli conflict, including Resolution 1701," Berri asserted. At the regional level, the Speaker considered that "what is happening in Palestine at this moment is a daily test of the global conscience," considering that "standing with the legitimate Palestinian right to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and before anything else, stopping the ongoing massacre in the sands of Gaza and its streets that have been transformed into mass graves, is a test for humanity in its humanity, a test for Arabs in their Arabism, a test for Muslims in their Islam and Christians in their Christianity." Berri considered that 'success in this test can only be achieved by escalating resistance to the racist Zionist project with all available forms of confrontation," warning that "the fall of Gaza, as Netanyahu plans, will be a resounding fall for the nation in its national security, culture, history, and future, and a fall of its geographical borders, paving the way for dividing the region and fragmenting it into warring sectarian and ethnic states in which Israel is the strongest entity."
