Seoul: The biggest November snowstorm to hit South Korea's capital in more than a half century blanketed the capital today, grounding hundreds of flights, disrupting commuter traffic, and leaving at least two dead. According to Oman News Agency, South Korea's weather agency reported that 20 to 26 centimeters (7.8 to 10 inches) of snow fell in northern areas of Seoul and nearby regions. This was the heaviest snowstorm Seoul has experienced in November in 52 years, surpassing a storm on 28 November 1972, which deposited 12 centimeters (4.7 inches). South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported a fatality and four injuries due to a five-vehicle accident in the eastern town of Hongcheon. In Yangju, a tent-type garage collapsed, killing a person who was removing snow, as confirmed by South Korea's Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The snowstorm also caused temporary power outages affecting approximately 230 homes in Gwangju, near Seoul, according to the Gyeonggi provincial government. The severe weather led to t he cancellation or delay of at least 317 flights at airports nationwide. Local authorities also ordered around 90 ferries to remain at port and closed down hundreds of hiking trails to ensure public safety.
