Muscat: Bitcoin climbed above $65,000 today, buoyed by easing Middle East tensions and falling oil prices, as investors turned their focus to the Federal Reserve's upcoming policy decision. The world's largest cryptocurrency rose 1.5 percent to $65,405.40, recovering some of last week's losses as risk appetite returned to markets.
According to Oman News Agency, Ethereum, the second-largest digital asset by market value, gained 4.1 percent to $1,959.92. XRP rose 1 percent to $1.109, Solana climbed 2 percent, while Dogecoin slipped 0.8 percent. The rally followed a decline in geopolitical fears that had weighed on markets, with lower oil prices reinforcing expectations of easing global inflationary pressures. A weaker dollar also supported demand for dollar-denominated assets, including cryptocurrencies.
Investors are awaiting the Federal Reserve's policy meeting this week, with rates expected to remain unchanged, while watching for signals on the future monetary policy path. Cryptocurrencies remain sensitive to interest rate expectations, with higher rates weighing on risk assets and rate-cut hopes typically boosting demand.
Markets are also eyeing earnings from major US tech names - including Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Amazon - for their impact on sentiment in risk assets.
