BEIRUT: A ceasefire agreement, mediated by the United States to end the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, today came into effect 4 am local time (02:00 GMT). There were no reports of any violations of the agreement so far. The agreement stipulates an initial two-month halt to hostilities. According to Oman News Agency, the United States and France, in a joint statement following the announcement of the ceasefire, pledged to lead international efforts to build the capabilities of the Lebanese army and support the Lebanese economy. Lebanon has been subjected to Israeli aggression for over a year, which escalated since the end of September 2024, resulting in thousands of civilian casualties and the displacement of more than a million people.
