Dagestan Floods Kill Two, Displace Thousands After Dam Collapse

Dagestan: Floodwaters submerged roughly two thousand homes in the Caspian Sea coastal district of Derbent. The bodies of a woman and her daughter have been recovered, while several others remain missing. According to Oman News Agency, the floods have also struck the capital, Makhachkala, where residential complexes are now at risk of collapse. Local authorities have set up emergency shelters in response to the crisis. Further rainfall is forecast across the region, accompanied by winds gusting up to 120 kilometres per hour and the threat of additional landslides. Heavy rains have battered the North Caucasus since late March, leading to widespread flooding. Flooding has submerged power substations, cutting electricity to some twenty districts across Dagestan. Emergency services are working to restore power and provide relief to the affected areas.
