Director General of International Cooperation at Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds meetings with senior officials of international organisations

Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held virtual meetings with senior officials from specialised United Nations agencies based in Geneva. During these meetings, Al Dhaen highlighted Bahrain's commitment to strengthening cooperation and partnership with the United Nations in all areas, in line with the Strategic Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development signed between Bahrain and 21 UN offices. She emphasised the pivotal role of the UN in monitoring the achievement of global sustainable development goals. In a meeting with Tomas Lamanauskas, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Al Dhaen underscored Bahrain's ongoing efforts to develop and sustain its telecommunications sector, enhancing the country's competitive position and economic productivity. ITU's Deputy Secretary-General commended Bahrain's dedication to the telecommunications sector and its notable achievements, recognis ing Bahrain as a model in this area that is driven by significant governmental support. In another meeting with Pierre Krähenbhl, Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ambassador Al Dhaen congratulated the Director-General on his new position and commended the ICRC's role in providing humanitarian aid to affected regions worldwide. She emphasised the importance of the ICRC's efforts in promoting international humanitarian law and global humanitarian principles. The Director-General expressed appreciation for Bahrain's commitment, particularly through the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), to humanitarian purposes both domestically and internationally. He looked forward to enhancing partnerships between Bahrain and the ICRC. In a separate meeting, Kristin Marie Dadey, Deputy Chief of Staff at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), congratulated Bahrain for achieving Tier 1 status for the seventh consecutive year in the US State Department's Trafficking in Per sons report. She commended Bahrain's efforts in raising awareness of human rights and combating human trafficking, noting the country's cooperation with the IOM and support for its regional and international activities. Ambassador Al Dhaen expressed appreciation for the IOM's significant role and support through the Regional Center of Excellence for Capacity Building in the Field of Combatting Trafficking in Persons, the first of its kind in the region.
