Dollar Strengthens as US-Iran Conflict Fuels Safe-Haven Demand

Muscat: The dollar edged higher against most major currencies at the start of Asian trading today, as the escalating US-Iran conflict drove oil prices higher and kept investor sentiment fragile following last week's market turbulence.

According to Oman News Agency, the dollar gained 0.1 percent against the yen to 162.48 yen, its strongest level since 9 July, as geopolitical tensions pushed investors towards safe-haven assets. The euro slipped 0.1 percent to $1.1426, while sterling steadied at $1.3445. The Australian dollar eased 0.1 percent to $0.6975, and the New Zealand dollar declined 0.2 percent to $0.5833.

Markets continue to expect no change in interest rates at the Federal Reserve's meeting on 29 July. The dollar index, which tracks the US currency against a basket of six major currencies, rose 0.1 percent to 100.84.

Bitcoin rose 0.2 percent to $64,637.89, while Ether gained 0.2 percent to $1,869.72.
