A two-day symposium on financial culture kicked off in Muscat today as part of the Education Ministry's "Khazna" Project, which seeks to raise awareness among school students about business affairs. Held under the auspices of Minister of Economy Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, the symposium elaborates on the role of financial culture in education as a means to achieve the goals of sustainable development. The symposium also reviews models of international and regional experiences and highlights the importance of integrating financial culture into school curricula. In this context, the symposium focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship and the role of financial technology in enhancing financial culture. The first session of the symposium saw the discussion of a working paper titled 'The importance of understanding financial culture and its influence on the lives of individuals and societies'. The session touched on behavioural economics and means of engaging education executives and helping them to develop pro jects that target changing financial behaviour. During the first day of the symposium, the participants had an opportunity to view the experiences in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan in incorporating financial culture in their respective curricula. An exhibition held on the sidelines of the symposium showcased student achievements in the field of financial culture. It also underlined business themes applied within the framework of projects codenamed "Khazna", the Little Trader, the Smart Investor, Artificial Intelligence, the Banking Village and a Financial Culture Studio. The programmes of the symposium include 12 training sessions for school students to be conducted by experts and specialists in financial awareness, as well as student visits to banking institutions. The opening of the symposium was attended by Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education, Royal Family members, ministers and directors general of education from different governorates of Oman.
