Environment Authority Engages in Arab Ministerial Meeting on Rangeland Sustainability

Cairo:The Environment Authority participated in the 37th Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment, held at the Secretariat General of the League of Arab States in Cairo. This meeting coincided with the conclusion of the 5th Arab Environment Forum 2026, under the theme 'Rangeland sustainability for the realization of enhanced resilience.'

According to Oman News Agency, Oman's delegation was led by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority. During the session, Dr. Abdullah emphasized the importance of integrating rangelands protection into national policies.

Oman's involvement in the ministerial meeting and the Arab Environment Forum highlights its commitment to strengthening Arab cooperation, exchanging expertise, and addressing priority environmental issues. The aim is to protect ecosystems and enhance their resilience against climate change, drought, and land degradation.

Dr. Abdullah also participated in a high-level panel titled 'From Vulnerability to Resilience: Investing in Rangeland Restoration and Financing the Transition.' This session focused on shifting from managing rangeland crises to investing in their sustainability and strengthening their resilience against climate-related degradation and drought.

The discussion covered two main themes: developing a "unified Arab vision" that incorporates rangelands into national biodiversity policies and upgrading financing from short-term projects to large-scale investment programs. These programs seek to bridge funding gaps and attract support from international institutions and the private sector for pastoral ecosystem restoration.

Dr. Abdullah also outlined Oman's approach to integrating ecosystem protection with natural resource management. On the sidelines of the meeting, he held bilateral discussions with Arab ministers and officials from Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Algeria, responsible for environmental affairs.
