Environmental Legislation Forum Focuses on Turtle Protection

Sur:South A'Sharqiyah: The Environment Authority organized a forum titled "Environmental Legislation: Together to Protect Turtles" in the South A'Sharqiyah Governorate to enhance the protection of sea turtles, conserve biodiversity, and raise public awareness about environmental legislation. According to Oman News Agency, the forum was held under the auspices of Sheikh Dr. Saif bin Mohammed Al Ghaithi, Wali of Sur, emphasizing the importance of environmental legislation in protecting wildlife and natural resources. The event aims to foster compliance with regulations governing environmental protection, particularly those related to sea turtles, which play a vital role in the biodiversity of the region. The forum addressed the legal and regulatory roles in protecting turtles and the marine environment under the 'Law on Living Aquatic Resources,' as well as measures for addressing wildlife violations. Participants included specialists from the Environment Authority, the Public Prosecution, the Directorate Gen eral of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in South A'Sharqiyah, and Sultan Qaboos University. The program featured a visual presentation on the wildlife activities of turtles at Ras Al Hadd Turtle Reserve, highlighting the ecological value of turtles and the importance of preserving their natural habitats.
