Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), received Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During the meeting, Guterres commended the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, to enhance peace and security in the world and consolidate dialogue and multilateral cooperation in the region and beyond. For his part, Sayyid Badr expressed his appreciation to the UN Secretary-General for his wise management of the international organization. He valued the stands undertaken by the Secretary General in support for action to establish justice and apply rules of international law and international humanitarian law. The meeting also touched on updates in a number of regional and international issues of common interest, most notably developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and efforts made to ensure an immediate ceasefire and contain military escalation in the region.
