An event titled 'Elevating Intellectual Property (IP), Research and Innovation in Oman forum' began today at Sohar University in North Al Batinah Governorate. The two-day forum is organized by Sohar University in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. In a speech at the forum, Dr. Rahma stressed the importance of human creativity and innovation as the main drivers of the global economy. She said that the two will provide unlimited sources of strength if they are well utilized and directed to serve national and global priorities. Five working papers were presented during the first day of the forum. They addressed a number of topics on intellectual property, research and innovation. The event also saw the signing of joint agreements between Sohar University and the Indian Institu te of Management, as well as a cooperation programme between Sohar University, the Environment Authority and Vale Oman Company. That was in addition to a memorandum of cooperation between Sohar University and the Sultan Qaboos Naval Academy. Source: Oman News Agency
