Gold Slips Amid Anticipation of US Inflation Data

Muscat: Gold slipped today as investors took profits after prices hit a seven-week high in the previous session, while markets awaited US inflation data for fresh clues on the Federal Reserve's interest rate outlook. Spot gold was down 0.5% at $4,322.28 per ounce. Prices had reached their highest since June 17 on Friday following weaker-than-expected US jobs data.

According to Oman News Agency, US gold futures fell 0.4% to $4,381.60, indicating a cautious approach among traders as they anticipate the upcoming inflation figures. The precious metals market also saw declines in other areas, with spot silver falling 0.2% to $63.45 per ounce, platinum losing 0.1% to $1,742.50, and palladium slipping 1.1% to $1,362.97.

The anticipation surrounding the release of US inflation data is influencing investor behavior, as they seek to understand how it might impact the Federal Reserve's future interest rate decisions. This data is crucial for determining the central bank's monetary policy direction, which in turn affects the demand for non-yielding assets like gold.
