In a press conference at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Caretaker Minister Hector Hajjar, accompanied by UNICEF representative, Edouard Beigbeder, and ILO's Ruba Jaradat, announced on Thursday that cash transfers for beneficiaries of the "Aman" and "Poorest Families" programs will commence on October 15, emphasizing the need for patience as support teams manage over 10,000 daily calls amid the ongoing crisis. Hajjar highlighted additional financial aid, including $1 million donated by China to assist 6,700 families in southern Lebanon. He also revealed that a further $1.2 million will be allocated to individuals with disabilities, particularly those aged 15 to 30, in the most affected regions, with support from UNICEF and the ILO. Addressing Lebanon's humanitarian crisis, Hajjar warned of health risks arising from overcrowding due to the influx of Syrian refugees, urging the international community to provide urgent assistance to address both the refugee and internal displacement crises. UNICEF's Beigbede r reiterated the organization's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, especially children, while ILO's Jaradat pledged to enhance emergency services for individuals with disabilities, ensuring coordinated efforts in this challenging time.
