Manama, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), extended his congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the national basketball team's victory in the 17th Gulf Championship, held in the Kingdom from 2 to 7 September, after defeating Qatar in the final with a score of 73-67. HH Shaikh Khalid also conveyed his congratulations to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the SCYS. HH Shaikh Khalid noted that this victory was a result of the support provided by His Majesty the King to Bahraini sports, alongside the backing of HRH the Crown Prince and the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser, which created the environment for this success. He acknowledged the efforts of the national basketball team throughout the tournament and commended the Bahrain Basketball Association for its diligent work in preparing the team. He extended his congratulations to the players, coaching staff, and all Bahraini fans. The final, held at Khalifa Sports City, saw HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice President of the GSA and President of the Bahrain Combat Sports Council, crown the national team as champions, with the attendance of HH Shaikh Abdullah Al Fateh bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of Cabinet Affairs and Vice President of the BOC, and Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, CEO of the GSA. HH Shaikh Salman conveyed his congratulations to the leadership, affirming that the continued achievements in Bahraini sports reflect the strong support from the leadership, the vision of HH Shaikh Nasser, and the efforts of HH Shaikh Khalid. He further congratulated the Bahrain Basketball Association, the coaching staff, and the players for this achievement, the first of its kind for the national team in external competitions, praising the performance and wishing success for all national teams in future events.
