Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Joo Manuel Louren§o of the Republic of Angola held a significant bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace in Luanda. The meeting focused on enhancing the cordial relations between Oman and Angola, aiming to secure mutual benefits for their peoples. Discussions also covered the latest international developments and issues of mutual interest.
According to Oman News Agency, the meeting was followed by an expanded official session of talks attended by the Omani official delegation and several Angolan officials. The session explored cooperation across various sectors, including industry, mining, energy, clean energy, ports, maritime transport, logistics services, agriculture, food security, and fisheries.
President Louren§o welcomed His Majesty and expressed hope that the visit would lead to further aspirations and investments. He highlighted the visit as a milestone in broadening economic, investment, and commercial partnerships, emphasizing recent successes like the opening of the African Bank of Oman in Luanda and Omani investments in Angola's mineral mining sector. Future cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, mineral resources, oil and gas, and pharmaceutical manufacturing was also discussed.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham expressed gratitude for Angola's warm reception and highlighted the satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations. He emphasized the visit's goal of continuing constructive dialogue and consultations, aiming to launch a new chapter of strategic partnership. His Majesty reiterated the commitment to advancing economic, business, and investment ties, with accompanying ministers keen to explore further cooperation opportunities.
The Sultan acknowledged the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during the visit, totaling more than $1.5 billion, as a strong foundation for lasting opportunities. He encouraged public and private sector collaboration to explore partnership opportunities, aiming for prosperity, security, and well-being in both nations.
His Majesty also expressed optimism about promising prospects in oil, mining, food security, and transport sectors, contributing to economic diversification. He highlighted the recently signed Technical Cooperation Program agreement's potential benefits for the Angolan people and its role in building strong bonds between the two countries.
Concluding his address, His Majesty expressed appreciation for Angola's hospitality and looked forward to continued mutual visits and dialogue to strengthen relations and cooperation spirit between Oman and Angola.
