Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Oman Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis and in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Ministry of Health, is hosting the 20th International Symposium on Atherosclerosis. According to Oman News Agency, the symposium, themed "Towards the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases through Precision Medicine," began today and will continue until 6 December 2024 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center. The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, with the attendance of several dignitaries, ministers, and high-ranking officials from government and private sectors, both within and outside the Sultanate of Oman. This is the first time the conference is being held in the Sultanate of Oman and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with participation from more than 1200 attendees from 62 countries around the globe. The scientific programme features contributions from leading global experts, with both general and concurrent scientific sessions. Renowned speakers will share their expertise and research in the field of cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, the conference includes sessions in collaboration with local, regional, and global associations, such as the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the International Diabetes Federation, the World Obesity Federation, and the World Heart Federation. These sessions provide attendees with the opportunity to engage with these organisations and benefit from their educational, training, and research programmes. It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, and members of the Oman Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis submitted the bid to host the conference in Toronto, Canada, in 2018. The selection of the Sultanate of Oman to host the conference was based on scientific criteria that reflect the high level of advanced medical services in this field within the Sult anate of Oman. This serves as a motivation for Omani doctors and medical assistants to excel and engage in scientific research.
