Rome: Italian authorities have declared a state of alert due to severe weather that caused flash floods and landslides in several parts of the country, including the capital Rome and the northern region of Piedmont. According to Oman News Agency, Italian media reported that Rome experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, which disrupted traffic and caused damage to several vehicles. Firefighters faced challenging conditions as they responded across different neighborhoods of the city. In Piedmont, strong winds and torrential rain ripped the roof off a building and triggered landslides, with rocks and debris blocking several roads. Emergency services were deployed to secure the affected areas. Fire crews carried out responses to 500 instances, while security teams worked to remove fallen trees. One woman tragically died after being struck by a falling tree. The Italian Meteorological Agency explained that the severe weather was caused by a clash between a recent heatwave and a cold air mass, resulting in intense storms, heavy rainfall, and wind speeds exceeding 100 km/h in some areas.
