Mikati: Our contacts are ongoing and we will spare no effort to stop the Israeli aggression and threats and restore stability to Lebanon

Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Tuesday renewed his call for the international community to stop the Israeli attacks and threats against Lebanon in preparation for establishing a solution based on the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701. Premier Mikati said: "The recent Israeli aggression on the southern suburbs of Beirut has increased the complexity of the current situation and has intensified fears of field confrontations that could push matters towards an all-out war." Mikati continued: "I express these concerns to all officials in countries friendly to Lebanon through the contacts and meetings that I hold, which I make sure to keep away from the media, because silent diplomacy is the most effective in such delicate circumstances that we are going through." The PM stressed: "What I can reveal in this regard is that the series of contacts and diplomatic meetings that I held yesterday have helped form the conviction among Lebanon's friends of the need to pressure Israel, to prevent the si tuation from slipping into unpredictable consequences and repercussions. This pressure is ongoing and we hope that it will lead to satisfactory results as soon as possible." The Premier continued: "The Israeli threats against Lebanon fall within the framework of the psychological war against the Lebanese. However, it is unfortunate that some are contributing to this war by talking about the attack dates and justifying their goals, while everyone knows that the key to the solution is to stop the Israeli fire and attacks, as well as to halt the aggression against the Palestinian people and accord them their legitimate rights." Mikati pointed out that "our contacts are ongoing and we will spare no effort to stop the Israeli aggression and threats and restore stability to Lebanon. The concerned government agencies are also continuing their field work in various domains to keep up with all developments." Premier Mikati met today at the Grand Serail with Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Judge B assam Mawlawi, with whom he discussed the security situation. On the other hand, Mikati chaired a meeting at the Grand Serail attended by the Regional Director of the World Bank's Middle East department, Jean-Christophe Carret, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity of Lebanon, Kamal Hayek, and the Prime Minister's Advisors, former Minister Nicolas Nahas and Samir Daher. The meeting was devoted to discussing the topics that will be included on the World Bank's agenda in the meetings next September, including a project related to the electricity sector in Lebanon.
