Muscat:The "Muscat Arbitration and Mediation Days" (MAMD) conference is set to commence on 7 December 2026, as announced during a press conference by the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OCAC), which is affiliated with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). The press event took place at the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs in Muscat.
According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al Manthiri, CEO of OCAC, emphasized that the event aims to solidify Oman's status as a center for dialogue and the exchange of expertise in arbitration and mediation. The conference will bring together experts and specialists from various countries to discuss modern developments and practices in dispute resolution.
The conference will feature opportunities for public and private institutions to participate in specialized panel discussions. The Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre has developed a special program reflecting its commitment to nurturing effective partnerships and fostering discussions with diverse perspectives. The launch of the conference's official website, mamd.om, will provide detailed information about the event, including the program, speakers, and sponsorship options.
A key component of the conference is the "Muscat Arbitration Competition 2026," which aims to enhance legal expertise, particularly among law students. The competition will involve participation from law schools, with separate tracks in Arabic and English. Each track will feature eight teams, consisting of three to five students supervised by a faculty coach, engaging in hypothetical arbitration before panels of arbitrators, judges, and practitioners.
During the press event, five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed between OCAC and various stakeholders, including the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, Visit Oman, Oman Society of Engineers, Decree, and Resolve. These agreements are intended to strengthen cooperation, facilitate expertise exchange, and expand the network supporting arbitration and mediation in Oman.
