Muscat: The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Batinah Governorate today launched the National Livestock Vaccination Project for the 2026/2027 season in the governorate's wilayats. The event was held under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Bakri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture.
According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Nasser Ali Al Marshoudi, Director General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Batinah Governorate, stated that the livestock vaccination project is a continuation of efforts to develop the animal health system. He emphasized the importance of integrating field work with digital technologies and data to enhance veterinary services, livestock protection, and support for food security.
He further explained that this initiative is part of Oman's broader strategy to promote animal health, prevent diseases, and support the sustainability of animal production. The project this year targets over half a million head of livestock in the governorate, utilizing six veterinary clinics in the wilayats and two mobile veterinary clinics to provide vaccination services.
Aida Mohammed Al Maqbali, Director of the Livestock Department in North Al Batinah, highlighted the achievements of the previous vaccination season, during which over 900,000 vaccine doses were administered, benefiting more than 449,000 head of livestock. The services reached 4,325 beneficiaries.
She noted that the new season aims to cover more than 70% of the total livestock population in the governorate. Efforts will focus on improving outreach to breeders, enhancing prevention and animal health, and launching a digital platform for the vaccination system. This platform is expected to improve follow-up mechanisms, manage field data, and support decision-making, thereby increasing the program's efficiency in the governorate.
