National Zero Neutrality Programme Launches Phase 3 Package of Projects, Initiatives.

Muscat: The National Zero Neutrality Programme (NET ZERO) today launched a package of projects and initiatives, codenamed "Neutrality 3", to expand the scope of action to achieve the 2030 targets in the "National Strategy for an Orderly Transition to Zero Neutrality". The launch ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit. According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, highlighted that the new package includes various target sectors for reducing carbon emissions, such as energy, industry, transport, and buildings. These initiatives are categorized into limited reduction and high reduction projects. Dr. Maryam Mohammed Al Busaidi, Head of the National Zero Neutrality Programme, provided a visual presentation detailing the developments and achievements of the programme, the projects and initiatives, the main sectors, opportunities, and enablers. This also included the endorsemen t of the national strategy for a streamlined transition to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Dr. Maryam emphasized that the "Neutrality 3" package comprises 212 projects and initiatives, offering an opportunity for expansion into new sectors and fields. In the industrial sector, 16 projects aim to improve energy efficiency and encourage the use of electric vehicles. Additionally, 8 new projects in biofuel and afforestation are set to raise the total to 24. She further explained that the "Neutrality 3" package saw the participation of military and security units, with initiatives and projects increasing from 108 to 212. These cover sectors such as transport, gas, industry, cities and buildings, education, agriculture, and the governorates sector, along with military and security units. In the oil and gas sector, three projects were added, bringing the total to 10, covering areas such as carbon capture, electrification of operations, and gas recycling. Meanwhile, in the electricity s ector, 28 projects were introduced. The transport sector saw 36 projects, while 26 projects were added to the cities and buildings sector, focusing on sustainable green cities, infrastructure, urban planning, and renewable energy. The initiative aims to transform cities into resource-friendly compounds. The environment and economy sector projects totaled 15. In the military and security services sector, there were 21 projects, and the education sector received 14 projects.
