Manama, Bahrain has made significant progress in worker protection, with a 60% reduction in occupational injuries since the implementation of the midday work ban, said Mustafa Aqeel Al Shaikh, Director of the Inspection and Occupational Safety Department at the Ministry of Labour. The ministerial decision No. (3) of 2013, which prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open spaces during July and August, has also led to a notable decrease in severe workplace accidents and improved productivity levels. Al Shaikh highlighted that since the decision's enforcement in 2013, there has been a reduction of over 60% in occupational injuries, particularly heatstroke and heat exhaustion. He also said that severe workplace accidents have decreased by over 40% in the past five years. The decision has also led to higher productivity levels due to improved working conditions, as companies have adjusted work schedules during the midday ban from 12 noon to 4 pm, ensuring project continuity across various sectors.
