Oil Drops Nearly 5% as Trump Announces Fresh Talks with Iran

Muscat: Oil prices plunged nearly 5% in early Asian trade today after US President Donald Trump said fresh negotiations with Iran would seek to end the conflict in the Middle East and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude futures fell 4.69% to $83.81 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 4.67% to $80.72 a barrel.

According to Oman News Agency, the announcement from Trump is part of a broader strategy to ease tensions in the region and secure the critical shipping lane through the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for global oil transportation. The talks aim to address ongoing disputes and create a framework for peaceful resolution, which could have significant implications for oil markets.

The drop in oil prices reflects investor optimism that successful negotiations could stabilize the region and ensure continuous oil flow, reducing the risk of supply disruptions. This development is closely watched by global markets, as the Middle East remains a crucial hub for oil production and exportation.
