Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is celebrating the inclusion of globally influential Omani personalities in UNESCO programmes, acknowledging the diligent efforts of cultural institutions in documenting and promoting Omani literature and the works of prominent figures whose contributions have been significant over the years. According to Oman News Agency, this celebration is a testament to the ongoing national initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting Omani cultural heritage on international platforms. It highlights Oman's active participation in UNESCO's programmes and initiatives and underscores the commitment of the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science to bring Omani cultural elements and symbols to the global stage, strengthening Oman's cultural and civilizational presence worldwide. Sayyid Said Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, revealed that Oman has documented over 30 Omani personalities, providing comprehensive biograph ies and in-depth analyses of their intellectual and cultural contributions. Of these, nine have been recognized in UNESCO's programme dedicated to commemorating significant historical events and influential personalities globally. He emphasized that this accomplishment is the result of dedicated institutional efforts, which include conducting specialized research in cultural fields and organizing scientific seminars focusing on Omani figures with enduring historical impact. The collaboration between various institutions has also been pivotal in extending the reach of these works both locally and internationally. Dr. Mahmoud Abdullah Al Abri, Secretary-General of Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, remarked on the occasion, stating that Oman's success in registering its luminaries with UNESCO acknowledges their intellectual, scientific, and cultural contributions to humanity. He highlighted that this celebration reflects Oman's belief in culture and knowledge as a means of fostering communication between peoples and preserving civilizational heritage for future generations. In conjunction with the celebration, the College of Sharia Sciences in Muscat organized a symposium titled "Highlights from the Intellectual and Linguistic Output of Omani Linguistic Personalities Included in UNESCO," featuring specialists and researchers exploring historical, literary, and intellectual contexts.
