Baku: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the World Leaders Climate Action Summit held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku today. The Sultanate of Oman's delegation was headed by Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals. According to Oman News Agency, the summit, which was attended by heads of state and government, discussed expanding the scope of cutting greenhouse gas emissions and focused on the issue of financing the Climate Change Loss and Damage Response Fund. Eng. Mansoor bin Hamad Al Shuaili, a member of the Omani negotiating team at the UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP29), emphasized that the Omani negotiators are addressing key topics such as adapting to climate change, reducing emissions, and technology transfer, alongside a fair transition to energy. He noted that the financing file is at the forefront of discussions to expedite progress. Dr. Maryam bint Mohammed Al Busaidi, Head of the National Programme for Zero Neutrality, highlighted that the summit in Baku is fo cused on climate finance funds, which are expected to support countries significantly. She stressed the ongoing efforts of Omani negotiators in collaborating across sectors within Oman concerning climate change and working to ensure integration with various groups participating in COP29, including the Arab Summit Group and the Group of 77 and China. Climate negotiators have made advancements since the onset of COP29, agreeing on global carbon market rules managed by the United Nations. Meanwhile, Omani negotiators align with global trends, aiming to achieve zero carbon neutrality by 2050.
