Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is participating in the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which is being held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from July 19 to 29, 2026. Representatives from the parties to the 1972 Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage are attending the session.

According to Oman News Agency, Oman's delegation is led by Amna Salim Al Balushi, Permanent Delegate of the Sultanate of Oman to UNESCO. During the session, the UNESCO committee is discussing files of nomination for new sites to be added to the World Heritage List and reviewing reports on the conservation of listed sites. The committee is also addressing policies and procedures related to the protection and management of World Heritage sites.

The session includes discussions on managing risks and disasters, addressing the effects of climate change, and activating the role of local communities tasked with protecting heritage. Oman's participation is driven by its commitment to keeping abreast of developments in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention and contributing to discussions on the protection and management of World Heritage sites. This involvement supports national efforts to preserve cultural and natural heritage in accordance with global standards.
