Muscat:A four-day regional training workshop focusing on medical emergency responses to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents, as well as medical evacuation, is being held in Oman.
According to Oman News Agency, the workshop, taking place in the Governorate of Muscat, is organized by the Ministry of Health's National Centre for Health Emergency and Risk Management in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).
National medical teams from Oman and several countries from the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe, including Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, T¼rkiye, and Ukraine, are participating alongside partners from 'Doctors Without Borders' (M©decins Sans Fronti¨res).
Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Busafi, Director of the National Centre for Health Emergency and Risk Management, emphasized the workshop's importance in showcasing ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Health and WHO, offering a platform for emergency response specialists to exchange expertise and strengthen regional coordination.
Dr. Asmus Hammerich, WHO's Representative in Oman, stated that the event aligns with Oman's health priorities and supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040. The workshop covers three main areas: preparedness and clinical management of CBRN incidents, burn care, and medical evacuation, which require integrated capabilities and clear operational workflows.
The workshop also aims to support the international accreditation process for the National Medical Emergency Team, involving coordination with the 'Medical City for Military and Security Services', the University Medical City, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, and the Ministry of Health's institutions.
