Muscat: Oman Human Rights Commission implemented a human rights awareness and education program in Dhofar Governorate, coinciding with the activities of Khareef Dhofar (monsoon) 2026.
According to Oman News Agency, over 340 people from various segments of society benefited from the program, as part of the Commission's efforts to spread a culture of human rights across various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
Executed in cooperation and coordination with several institutions, the program included the distribution of more than 2,500 awareness and research publications, alongside 104 awareness wall charts to a number of entities and institutions.
The distributed publications included research studies on human rights topics tailored for researchers, booklets to educate children on abuse, bullying, and other topics, as well as the Commission's annual reports and introductory leaflets on international conventions. The wall charts focused on introducing the conventions to which the Sultanate of Oman has acceded, and reviewing national protection mechanisms for women, children, and persons with disabilities.
The program included a series of training workshops and interactive events held in conjunction with the Ministry of Education's summer program for school students, "Summer: Learning and Innovation." Among these were workshops on the role of Oman Human Rights Commission in protecting and promoting children's rights, conducted in cooperation with several schools. This was in addition to activities aimed at children, including "Color and Learn Your Rights," and others on self-protection mechanisms in cooperation with Omani Bahjah Orphans Association.
The program also featured specialized workshops for Girl Guides at the scout camp in Sahl Ashoor, and others for members of Special Olympics Oman at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment, alongside a symposium to promote humanitarian and rights work in cooperation with the Social Development Committee in the Wilayat of Taqa. The program was implemented in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Social Development Committee in the Wilayat of Taqa, and several civil society institutions, in addition to Special Olympics Oman.
These programs come within the mandates of Oman Human Rights Commission to spread a human rights culture among various segments of society, in accordance with its system issued by Royal Decree No. 47/2026, thereby enhancing awareness of rights and consolidating their principles among society members and institutions.
