Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman today wound up its participation in the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, organized by the United Nations (UN) in Geneva. The event was attended by representatives of the UN's 193 member states, global technology companies, civil society organizations, and technical and academic institutions. According to Oman News Agency, Oman Lens company was crowned winner of the bronze medal in the 'AI for Good' initiative, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in cooperation with global research and development institutions specializing in the fields of AI and space technologies. Oman Lens participated in an international initiative themed 'Eradicating Hunger,' aimed at utilizing artificial intelligence technologies to study the nature of agricultural crops and support food security. This was notably achieved through the development of advanced algorithms based on space data and satellite images. As part of the global dialogue session, Dr. Ali b in Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, convened with Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union. Dr. Ali and the ITU Secretary General discussed aspects of joint cooperation and the steps made by the Sultanate of Oman to modernize its legislation and update policies to keep pace with the rapid growth in AI technologies. Oman also affirmed its readiness to contribute to efforts for realizing governance of artificial intelligence and maximize the benefits of AI applications, working in cooperation with the UN and all partners.
