New york: The Sultanate of Oman has emphasized that achieving sustainable security and stability in the Middle East requires addressing the root causes of conflicts. In a speech delivered at the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York, Oman highlighted that political solutions are the most reliable path to peace, development, and stability for the region's peoples. According to Oman News Agency, the speech was delivered by Khalid Saleh Al Rabkhi, Deputy Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations. Al Rabkhi stressed Oman's stance during a high-level UN open debate titled 'Promoting Political Solutions in the Middle East: Mediation and Dialogue for Lasting Peace', chaired by Colombian President Gustavo Petro Urrego. Al Rabkhi noted that unresolved crises in the Middle East tend to resurface and that conflicts without fair settlements continue to affect regional security and stability. He emphasized the importance of political solutions in addressing fundamental causes and establishing conditions for lasting peace. He outlined several factors crucial for successful mediation and peaceful dispute resolution, including confidence-building between parties, respecting sovereignty, adhering to international law, and fostering dialogue. Al Rabkhi highlighted the Palestinian issue as a major challenge, urging for a political settlement to ensure Palestinian rights. Al Rabkhi reiterated the need for a just peace, advocating for the end of Israeli occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He called for a collective belief in peace as a strategic choice and stressed the importance of supporting mediation, preventive diplomacy, and international initiatives to build trust and sustainable solutions. He affirmed Oman's commitment, underpinned by values of wisdom, moderation, and mutual respect, to support efforts aimed at fostering understanding, peace, and stability in the region.
