Muscat: The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate of Dhofar today inaugurated an Omani honey and turmeric exhibition in the Wilayat of Salalah. The event, scheduled to run until 31 August 2026, aims to support honey producers and farmers by facilitating the marketing of their products.

According to Oman News Agency, the exhibition plays a crucial role in enhancing food security and showcases a variety of Omani honey and local turmeric cultivated in the Dhofar mountains. Eng. Fa'il Mohammed Al Jahfali, Assistant Director General of Agriculture and Livestock in Dhofar Governorate, highlighted that the Ministry's programme to develop the beekeeping sector started in the early 1980s. The initiative focuses on equipping beekeepers with essential skills, promoting best practices in hive management, pest control, and the expansion of bee colonies.

Al Jahfali noted that the Ministry's efforts have significantly increased natural honey production, raising the annual output to 50 tons. This marks the fourth consecutive year the honey and turmeric exhibition is being held. He also mentioned that turmeric is a vital crop for food processing industries, with local farmers cultivating it during the Khareef season in Dhofar's mountainous regions. The cultivated area for turmeric continues to expand annually.

Al Jahfali emphasized that the exhibition plays a key role in invigorating local food industries, supporting rural families, and encouraging them to advance their projects with assurance.
